What is a Preexisting Condition

In health insurance, a preexisting (or pre-existing) condition is one that existed before the policy.

Due to the implementation of the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) insurance companies can no longer reject applications or charge more for people with preexisting conditions.

Limited benefit plans such as short term medical plans or critical illness policies do not qualify as qualified plans under the new laws and can reject applicants with significant health conditions.
