What is a Benefit Period?
In a long term care insurance (LTCI) policy, this is the limit to the total amount of benefit that can be paid.
While other kinds of insurance state a dollar amount of benefit, LTCI policies offer a certain number of days of covered services.
For example, in a nursing home, the insured is generally there everyday, but the person covered may only get 5 days per week in an adult day care facility or 3 days a week of therapy services.

In Medicare, Part A, there is a $1260 deductible for a hospital stay.
If you come out of the hospital for 60 days and then go back in, this begins a new "benefit period" and a new deductible.
