What does HMO mean?
HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization.
An HMO is a type of health plan that requires you to restrict your services to the doctors, hospitals and other medical providers that are in the HMO network.
Your only way to have services outside the network are in the case of a true medical emergency.
HMOs are attractive to some people because they do not have a deductible. Instead, they only require you to pay a small copay for your services.
Another unique feature is that you will have a Primary Care Physician, a general practice doctor who will have to write a referral for you to see a specialist.
