What are Activities of Daily Living?

Also known as ADL, Activities of Daily Living are a list of things people in good health are able to do without assistance.

Benefits under a Long Term Care Insurance policy, are paid out if the insured needs assistance in performing 2 or more of these activities.  (Requiring assistance due to severe cognitive impairment is another benefit trigger.)

ADLs include:
Bathing
Transferring (getting in and out of a chair or bed)
Toileting
Eating
Dressing
Continence (the ability to control ones bowels and bladder)
